Into the Dark Unknown (The Marriage Song) - lyrics
Like a vision she stepped out
And all the fear that fed his doubt
Just surrendered to the hour
The bridesmaids and the flowers
The promises they made before the gathered here todays
Well I crept through the reception
Like a child freshly scorned
I caught up with all my old friends
Tending to their newborns
I thought I could have cried
But all my ghosts laid down and died
I'm ready to go my way
River life take your knife and cut these tethered weights
Cut them free
Let me be the way that I must be
Let things flow where they must go
Into the dark unknown
Mother will I disappoint you
If I can't make it back upstream
I am fighting, I am fighting
But I don't make the team
Son I've stood here by your father
Over 30 some odd years
If there's one thing I should tell you
You have to face your own fear
Whether married or alone, you are always on your own
I'm ready to go my way
River life take your knife and cut these tethered weights
Cut them free
Let me be the way that I must be
Let things flow where they must go
Into the dark unknown
Hey look, now
There we go

It may not be a full-fledged LP, but All Delighted People is probably my favourite of Sufjan's works. Without an overaching album theme to tie the songs together, it felt like Sufjan was free to experiment on each track and give them their own unique sound. And because of that (and Sufjan's talent), every track on there is a standout track. Angkasawan

I consider this album to be the first music I truly identified with and fell in love with when I was still growing up. Gabriel's music is so easy to sing along to and has such lovely storytelling. This will always have a place in my heart as one of the best most important albums in my life. Cannot recommend enough!! Alejandro Montañez
